What exactly is OROS?
Crunchy cubes made only from the crust of Matera bread (the best part). It's not a cracker, it's not a tarallo: it's real bread, reduced to its essence.
What are the ingredients?
Only 3: durum wheat semolina, water, sourdough starter. Plus the specific ingredient for each flavor (olives for Wild Olive, onion and raisins for Secret Calzone, dark chocolate chips for Midnight Choco). No additives, no preservatives.
How long does it last once opened?
It stays crunchy for several weeks after opening, if stored in a cool, dry place.
What is the shelf life before opening?
6 months from the production date, at room temperature; no need for a refrigerator.
Is it vegan?
Yes, all three flavors are vegan.
Does it contain gluten?
Yes, it is made with durum wheat semolina; it is not suitable for those following a gluten-free diet.
Are there added sugars?
No. The only sugars present (in Secret Calzone and Midnight Choco) are natural, from the ingredients themselves; we do not add any.
How do you eat it?
However you prefer: on its own as a snack, for dipping in sauces and hummus, on a board with cold cuts and cheeses, or as part of an aperitif. No cooking or preparation of any kind is needed.
Why does it cost more than a tarallo or a potato chip?
You aren't comparing the same product. OROS comes from a sourdough starter handed down for generations, with real, recognizable ingredients, not industrial flavorings or additives. It is real bread, not an industrial product.
Where does the sourdough starter come from?
From a baker in Matera who has guarded it for generations, passed down from father to son. It is the only thing that makes this product impossible to copy elsewhere.
Can I buy just one pack?
The best way to try OROS is with one of our 6-packs; you can choose a mix of the three flavors or focus on the one you prefer.
Do you ship outside of Italy?
Certainly, throughout Europe.
Is the packaging recyclable?
Yes, the cardboard box goes in the paper collection, and the inner bag in the plastic collection. Full instructions are printed on the packaging.
